- Insert rod flush with left edge of vise in the mill.
- The rod should be on top of 1-1/2 inch parallels
- Hold grinding wheel with 3/4 collet with at least 1 inch stick out.
- Center grinding wheel on Y-axis of rod and past the left edge.
- Lower wheel to be approximately even with rod.
- Make sure to be in forward gear.
- With spindle on, approach end of rod from the left.
- Slow down when you get close and advance until wheel just starts making contact.
- Zero the x-axis.
- Raise spindle and move to 0.5 inch in the x-axis and lock it.
- Lower spindle above rod until it is close and lock spindle in place.
- With spindle on, raise table until wheel just starts making contact.
- Adjust handle to 0.
- Move along y until wheel is behind rod.
- Raise table 0.005 inch (0.005 inch total).
- Move along y until wheel is in front of rod at a rate of about 1 revolution per 5 seconds.
- Move back to starting position.
- Raise table 0.005" (0.010 inch total).
- Move along y until wheel is in front of rod at a rate of about 1 revolution per 5 seconds.
- Move back to starting position.
- Raise table 0.005" (0.015 inch total).
- Move along y until wheel is in front of rod at a rate of about 1 revolution per 5 seconds.
- Move back to starting position.
- Release clamp and spin rod 180 setting up as before with newly machined flat on the right top approximately level.
- Lower table past 0.
- Raise table to 0.
- Repeat above for the other end of the bar.
