Actuator bellows sealed valve
Actuator bellows sealed valve

Description

The actuator is based on a modified RC servo. The control electronics are replaced, but the original mechanical components are retained. Thus, the servo delivers the same mechanical performance as the base model: about 10 kg-cm torque and rotational speed of about 360 degrees per second. However, gear train is modified to permit continuous rotation and the position potentiometer is replaced with a rotary encoder which provides 3.75 degree position resolution, or 96 discrete positions per turn. Additionally, the microprocessor-based modified electronics communicate directly with the control system via a serial COM port (TTL RS-232), accepting commands and providing position information. The cylindrical coupling adapts the servo's drive spline to the valve stem, and the frame anchors the servo to the frame bearing, which attaches to valve body.

Components:

(1) actuator coupling 4BSV
(1) actuator frame bearing 4BSV
(1) actuator frame 6PV
(4) screw 6-32 x 1/4 PH SS
(1) screw M3 x 6 PH, 5.3 mm dia head
(1) servo serial
(1) servo wheel coupling driver

Function:

The actuator rotates the valve stem to any discrete position within the valve limits, dynamically reporting positional data as requested by the control system. Once a position is reached, the servo powers down, and the valve remains in that position, unaffected by power or signal loss.

Application:

These actuators are designed to operate multi-turn, bellows-sealed valves in automated process control applications. They link the computer to the physical hardware. Intended for use in laboratory environments with typical indoor conditions, they are not suitable for outdoor use, wet locations, or other harsh environmental conditions.
