If the ceramic fiber furnace is damaged, it is possible to patch the outside using a mixture of hot surface mix, ceramic fiber rigidizer, and ceramic fiber blanket.
- Prepare the damaged area by removing loose or out of place fibers.
- Soak the area with rigidizer.
- Take a piece of ceramic fiber blanket and manipulate it to fill the damaged area.
- Use small pieces at a time, creating layers. Add rigidizer to each layer.
- Dust each layer with hot surface mix to bind it to the next.
- Poke the are with a sharp tool like an awl to "felt" the ceramic fibers together.
- Once the area is filled, shape and smooth the surface.
- Create a slurry of powdered ceramic fiber, hot surface mix, and rigidizer. Paint the surface of the area with it.
- Allow the furnace to cure for at least 24 hours before heating again.
