If the ceramic fiber furnace is damaged, it is possible to patch the outside using a mixture of hot surface mix, ceramic fiber rigidizer, and ceramic fiber blanket.

1. Prepare the damaged area by removing loose or out of place fibers.
2. Soak the area with rigidizer.
3. Take a piece of ceramic fiber blanket and manipulate it to fill the damaged area.
   • Use small pieces at a time, creating layers. Add rigidizer to each layer.
4. Dust each layer with hot surface mix to bind it to the next.
   • Poke the are with a sharp tool like an awl to "felt" the ceramic fibers together.
5. Once the area is filled, shape and smooth the surface.
6. Create a slurry of powdered ceramic fiber, hot surface mix, and rigidizer. Paint the surface of the area with it.
7. Allow the furnace to cure for at least 24 hours before heating again.
