A typical example is the MicroChip MCP9700 family. The change in output voltage over a specified range is scaled to a convenient temperature coefficient. For example, -40 to 150 °C might be scaled to 10 or 19.5 mV/°C. The output voltage at 0 °C is a fixed positive value, nominally 400 or 500 mV, to provide headroom for negative temperatures. These devices feature low output impedance (typically 20 Ω) so they can be connected directly to an ADC with no intervening signal conditioning circuit.
